SSR-4000
Default SSR-4000 Settings

This guide is based on configuring a TAG SSR-4000 with the controller manufacturers (Infortrend) default set up. This guide will instruct you in setting up an SSR-4000 to TAG specifications.

Telnet into the RAID with a NULL MODEM cable using Hyper-Terminal. Use the following settings in HyperTerminal:

Bits per Second – 38400
Data Bits – 8
Parity – None
Stop Bits – 1
Flow Control – Hardware

Once you have the screen up, hit CTRL-L to refresh screen. Select “Terminal (VT100 Mode)”.

Select “View and Edit SCSI Channels.

The SCSI Channels should reflect this set up:

CH 0, Mode – Host, PID-4, SID-3
CH 1, Mode – Host, PID-4, SID-3
CH 2, Mode – Drive, PID-11, SID-12
CH 3, Mode – Drive, PID-11, SID-12

*note- Typically the default set-up of the controller (from the manufacturer) places CH2 & CH3 with PID & SID set to 8 & 9, which will cause errors during start-up and POST. It is an ID conflict with Drives set to the same IDs on Channel 3. Allow POST to complete, hit ESC on the Controller LCD Panel to acknowledge errors (and in the HyperTerminal screen), and continue with the Set-up. Every time you make a change to the PID and the SID, it will prompt you to RESET CONTROLLER. This is not necessary until you have made all changes to the Channel IDs. RESET CONTROLLER can be done manually through SYSTEM FUNCTIONS. Once this is completed, you should not see any more ID related errors.

Select “View and Edit Configuration Parameters.”
Select “Communication Parameters”.
Select “RS232 Port Configuration”.
Under COM1 and COM2, ensure that Terminal Emulation is enabled.
Escape back and select “Caching Parameters”.

Ensure that Write Back Cache is DISABLED and Optimization for Sequential I/O is set. (If Optimization is set to Random I/O, the maximum logical drive size will be 512 GB. With Sequential, the maximum logical drive size is 2 TB)

Escape back and select “Drive Side SCSI Parameters”.

Ensure these settings are correct:

SCSI Motor Spin-up – Enabled
Periodic Drive Check Time – 2 Seconds
Periodic SAF-TE and SES Device Check Time – 5 Seconds
Periodic Auto Detect Failure Drive Swap Check Time – Disabled
Drive Predictable Failure Mode (SMART) - Disabled
Fiber Channel Dual Loop – Enabled
Escape back and select “Disk Array Parameters”.
Ensure Rebuild Priority is set to NORMAL.
Escape back and select “Controller Parameters”.
Set CONTROLLER NAME to PHOENIX.
Set LCD TITLE DISPLAY to CONTROLLER NAME.
Ensure SDRAM ECC is ENABLED.
