Forgot the Firmware password?
If you have set up a firmware password on a Solaris based machine and you cannot remember what the password is, allow the machine to boot all the way into the O/S, and then open a terminal window. Type “eeprom security-mode=none”, (just the words, not the quote marks). This will nullify the firmware password. If you wish to put a new password on the firmware, type “eeprom security-mode=command”. You will then be asked for the new password. The eeprom command is a good way to change your machines NVRAM configuration while in the O/S, instead of rebooting the machine. Just use the “man eeprom” command in the terminal to see all the uses for this command.

The Antares PCI Cool Audio Sound cards, which are in some TAG built Solaris O/S based machines, are not supported in Solaris 9. Due to the Open Windows GUI being discontinued after Solaris 8, the necessary drivers for the audio card will no longer be a part of the Solaris O/S. If you are going to upgrade your O/S to Solaris 9, you will lose the use of the audio card. The manufactures of the card have made no decision to update their drivers, at this time.
