Preventive Maintenance - Components

Question:

I have noticed that, over time, certain components on my machine seem to operate intermittently. Is there something that can be done to prevent this?

Answer:

A computer system that is deployed in the field experiences constant exposure to sand, dust, and other particulates. A routine maintenance program is essential in prolonging the full functionality of a system.

Sand and dust can serve as a major factor in the failure
. By simply blowing the interior of the drive with a can of compressed air will dramatically enhance the functionality and life of the peripheral.

In extreme conditions, the system should be removed from its rack enclosure, and with the lid removed, blow out the interior of the chassis with a can of compressed air. This will eliminate any pooling of contaminants and allow the system to operate more efficiently.
